Screening of LEANED BACK by Adam Jason Cohen
Q&A with Director Adam Jason Cohen and Boston Art Book Fair Co-Founder Oliver Mak. Capacity is limited, admittance is on a first come, first served basis.

LEANED BACK is a portrait of a Chicago community of young men who risk their lives to save their lives. Often times, it’s rare for a citizen of Chicago to leave their neighborhood due to the fear of violence or designed segregation. Chicago Bike Life has allowed strangers from every corner of the city to become life long brothers.

Adam Jason Cohen (b. New Jersey, 1986) is a director and photographer who splits his time between Chicago and New York City. His photography has been showcased in local and international publications, print and online, and physical exhibition.

Drag Queen Story Hour
What is Drag Queen Story Hour? It’s just what it sounds like! Storytellers using the art of drag to read books to kids in libraries, schools, bookstores – and art book fairs! DQSH captures the imagination and play of the gender fluidity of childhood and gives kids glamorous, positive, and unabashedly queer role models. In spaces like this, kids are able to see people who defy rigid gender restrictions and imagine a world where everyone can be their authentic selves!

SPECIAL NOTE: This free, family-friendly event requires pre-registration for entry. Capacity is limited. All adults must be accompanied by a kid or kids.

Workshop: Embodied Making As Collective Publishing
Presented by Radical Characters and Body & Forma.

Join graphic designers Mary Y. Yang of Radical Characters and Chen Luo of Body & Forma for a workshop to explore how embodied making can inform collective publishing. During the workshop, we’ll explore the relationship between the body and Hanzi (Chinese characters) through a series of hands-on exercises to create collaborative, wearable posters. Participants will practice writing Hanzi at a large scale by making a human-proportioned poster. How can embodied making create a space for collective exchange and expression? What does collective publishing look like through collaborative labor in a shared space and time? What are ways that we can examine the boundaries between bodies and print, typography and space, and the individual to the collective? Capacity limited to 24 attendees. Book signing to follow.

Power in Youth, Art, + CommunityCentering young people in our efforts for social change, moderated by Tarik Bartel of Roxbury Youth Programs, with panelists Ayana Mack, Kiki Alexis, Lily Xie and Mya Bentick Carrington
Young people are actively envisioning and contributing to the future of their communities. They are already using art and organizing skills to build towards a better future, whether adults are willing to recognize it or not. How can artists and organizations create more space and access for youth in Boston to engage with social change on their own terms? What becomes possible when we push for youth-centered movements and shift power into the hands of young people? Join us for a panel discussion among Boston youth, artists, and community organizers on how to create more space for youth voice in creative community spaces.

Open Mic: Prayers for Queer SalvationJoin us after the fair closes to experience a poetry night & open mic for words celebrating the collective vast and ever expanding experience of queerness. Presented in conjunction with current Mills Gallery exhibition A Temple for Timeless Beasts, featuring work by Anukriti, curated by Jasper A. Sanchez. No RSVP required. Sign up in person at the gallery for a timed slot on a first-come, first-served basis.

Zine-making Workshop
“Unstitch the Mouth: Perzines” with Cristina Hajosy

Most zines are created out of personal passions whether fun, inspirational, instructional, narrative or just abstract. This one-hour workshop will focus on the Map Fold, aka Lotus Single Sheet Construction which has an amazing pop-up effect that’s sure to get your message across. No previous experience necessary, all materials provided. Capacity limited to 24 attendees.

Panel: Post-Pandemic PlatformsNew strategies for crafting, holding and distributing space in a time of evolving contagion and change. Moderated by Alex Lukas, with the participation of Meg Rotzel, from the Harvard Radcliffe Institute, Nerissa Cooney and Kayla Romberger from Ulises, and Kate Conlon & Boyang Hou from Limited Time Engagement.
As we enter an endemic stage of the COVID-19 pandemic, this panel brings together artists, curators, and organizers to discuss the pivotal role publishing has played in their practices over the past two and a half years. With a specific focus on artist-run spaces and Do-It-Together initiatives, participants will discuss the importance of print as a tool for bringing communities together, both online and away from the keyboard, and consider what new publishing methodologies they might maintain moving forward.

by Cristiano Grim, editor of FAKE, with book signing of FAKE3 by Zach Hobbs

Cristiano Grim, artist, musician, photographer and editor of FAKE, will perform 8 poems extracted from the 3 current editions of FAKE zine/ compilation and additional unpublished upcoming works.

The reading will be followed by a signing by Zach Hobbs of FAKE3-FLORIDA UNTITLED, the third issue of the zine/compilation edited and published by experimental artist Cristiano Grim.

Cristiano Grim is an experimental artist, musician, photographer, and writer based in New York. He is the editor of FAKE, vocalist and keyboardist of the bands INTRZN and Wrong Beach, deejay and radio host with his heteronym DJ REAL at LYL Radio in Paris, The Lot Radio in New York, Dublab Radio in Los Angeles.
